Help

In a nutshell, Leenker brings the browsers bookmarks experience online but with extra capabilities. It all starts with the idea that people tend to use their bookmarks to save useful/helpful links, I believe that these links may also be valuable for other people with similar interests, so why not create a place to organize them and share? - This is why I created leenker.com.

    What are "Leenks"?

Leenker allows you to create "Leenks", this concept represents a composition: a link with a title assigned to a folder and belonging to a user, these may contain comments, votes or tags.

    Releenks

Leenks can be "releenked": shared by other people with access to see them, except in the case of private folders of course, in this event, Leenks can only be seen on the author's profile if proper permission is given to the user trying to access them.

    Folders

An entity capable of storing more folders or Leenks inside of it, just as a rudimentary bookmark, the existence of folders is to help you better organize your Leenks and resources, but it does not end there, I said before Leenker has some extra capabilities, here comes one of them, folders have two access levels:

    Public Folders

Allows any user and visitor to access its direct Leenks.

    Private Folders

Only enables access to the owner of the folder and any person that may have been granted access manually by the folder's owner. In Leenker we are driven by a privacy-first policy, we like to put users before anything else, so private folders are private, their content (content meaning the folder's name and direct Leenks) is not visible and access to these folders can not be requested, only the owner of the folder can decide who will have access. Some important notes on private folders:

    1. A private folder could contain child folders that are public if desired and vice-versa, each folder is an individual entity on the tree only tied to each other for an organizational reason.
    2. Leenks inherit the access level of its direct parent folder: Leenks access to a user other than the owner is given by its direct parent folder.
    3. Changing the access level of a folder will inherently change all its child folders to match this new access level, child folders can be manually switched to another access level after this action has happened.
    4. Deleting a folder removes also all its child's folders, including their Leenks.
    5. User permission is granted on a per-folder basis, this action does not inherit from a parent folder to a child folder for security reasons.

    Following a User

It allows you to see Leenks that you have access to from that user on your homepage (also called personal feed)

    Privacy and Transparency Questions

What happens when you delete something on leenker, i.e one of your Leenks?

Short answer: It is gone for good. Explanation, usually in any system when you delete an item it is a good practice to keep it in the database with a flag that avoids showing that item to the users in the future, in Leenker we don't follow that good practice, instead, we don't keep it in our database at all, we delete the record completely because user's privacy comes first. This policy currently applies to any "delete" action inside of leenker.

Should I upload or post sensitive Leenks on Leenker?

I encourage you to NOT upload sensitive data to leenker, if you have data that is highly sensitive or personal it should not be anywhere on the internet and I will not tell you this project is the exception, this is why this section is not only called privacy but also transparency.

    Current State

Leenker is not finished yet, but it is usable, you all know that popular quote, "if you feel your project is ready to be launched then it is already too late for it.", so I am launching early even if it is not ready because early feedback is always a plus.

I wanna make Leenker a great place for people to organize their links and discover new interesting ones, with your help I am sure we can make it.
